HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION OF TOBYHANNA TOWNSHIP
May 21, 2015
Clymer Library, 115 Firehouse Road, Pocono Pines, Pa.
Attendance: 23
Speaker: John Layton, "History of the Ace Store”
The meeting was called to order by Secretary Jeanne Dyer. She welcomed the attendees and encouraged guests to join HATT. Frank McDevitt led the pledge of allegiance.
New officers needed: Jeanne announced that Jim Forcella is no longer able to function as HATT president and she asked that members step up to fill the vacancies for president and vice president and/or offer some names for consideration for these positions. Candidate’s names can be given to any member of the board or any officer. Hopefully, we will be able to induct the new officers in June.
Membership dues: She also reminded attendees that our HATT membership runs the calendar year. Anyone who has not paid now should renew their membership now. Anyone who has not paid by the end of June will be dropped from the membership list.
June meetings: Jeanne announced that our June meeting is a two-part event. This two-hour presentation, given by Jim Forcella, will be entitled “ The 20th Century’s Most Despicable Dictator — Adolf Hitler.” Prepare to be intrigued by the fiendish framework that molded the man behind his detestable, despicable deeds and murders.
Part I of this presentation will be held at Clymer Library on Thursday, June 11, 5:30 p.m. Part 2 will be on Tuesday, June 16, 5:30 p.m. Mark your calendars now so that you can attend both presentations.
Artifact activity: Following the announcements, Jeanne introduced Scarlett Rehrig who guided us through sorting boxes of local artifacts. Attendees divided into small groups and went through boxes of donated memorabilia, sorting out items pertinent to Tobyhanna Township.
This is just the first session needed to get items ready for cataloging. Following the sorting, each group talked about the most interesting item they had found in their box. Scarlett said we will need to work on these items for an hour before each HATT meeting. Her goal is to get it all completed by the end of 2015.
At the completion of the session, Jeanne reminded the members of the need to fill our current officer’s positions. She also presented Scarlett with a plaque showing our appreciation for her taking on the task of organizing archives. Meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Jeanne Dyer, HATT Secretary
